Apple Accelerates Assembly Shift to India

U.S. tech giant Apple plans to manufacture the majority of iPhones sold in the United States at factories in India by the end of 2026.
According to a source quoted by Reuters, Apple is engaged in urgent discussions with Foxconn and Tata to expedite the process.
Currently, around 80 percent of the nearly 60 million iPhones sold annually in the U.S. are manufactured in China. However, Apple has initiated a relocation of its production facilities to avoid potential high tariffs.
Although manufacturing costs in India are 5 to 8 percent higher compared to China, Apple has already increased its production volumes. In March alone, India exported approximately 600 tons of iPhones to the U.S., with an estimated market value of nearly $2 billion.
Foxconn and Tata currently operate three factories in India, with two additional facilities under construction. Apple's relocation strategy has been further accelerated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 'Make in India' initiative.
