Over 2,000 patients in Ramganj, Lakshmipur, received free eye treatment and cataract surgery through a two-day medical camp organized by the welfare organization Smart Foundation. The initiative, titled "Sony-Smart Eye Care Camp," was conducted on Sunday and Monday (February 16 and 17) in collaboration with Smart Electronics Limited (Sony-Smart), the official distributor of Sony in Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Eye Trust Hospital.

The organization confirmed this in a press release on Monday (February 17).

According to the organizers, patients received free eye examinations, essential medicines, and prescription glasses from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day. Additionally, selected patients were provided with transportation to Dhaka, accommodation, and meals, along with free cataract surgery using the phacoemulsification method with imported soft lenses—ensuring a painless, stitch-free, and bloodless procedure.

The eye care initiative was inaugurated on Sunday morning under the slogan, "Your Vision, Our Responsibility; See Clearly with Sony-Smart." The event was formally launched by the Secretary-General of Smart Foundation and Managing Director of Smart Technologies (BD) Ltd., Mr. Mohammad Zahirul Islam. Present at the event were Mr. Ricky Lucas, Head of Sony International (Pte.) Ltd. Bangladesh branch; Mr. Md. Nur Uddin Bhuiyan, Principal of Ramganj Model Degree College; Mr. Debabrata Das, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Ramganj Upazila; Mr. Md. Tanvir Hossain, Director of Sony-Smart; Mr. Muhammad Kamrul Islam Sanjid, General Manager of Bangladesh Eye Trust Hospital; and Mr. Azad Rahman, Deputy General Manager and Head of Marketing at Sony-Smart, along with representatives from various professional sectors.

Speaking as the chief guest, Mr. Mohammad Zahirul Islam emphasized, "Smart Foundation is a fully welfare-oriented organization. Its primary mission is to ensure the development and well-being of the people of my birthplace, Ramganj, Lakshmipur."

He further added, "As you know, through Smart Foundation, we have been standing by people from different walks of life, working together to build the Bangladesh of our dreams. In the past, we have conducted various healthcare programs, including bringing expert doctors from Turkey every year to provide free modern circumcision services for children. As a continuation of this commitment, we have organized this two-day free eye care program. In the future, we aim to undertake more such welfare initiatives. With everyone’s support, we want to play a key role in building a brighter and more prosperous Lakshmipur and, ultimately, a better Bangladesh."
