Trump and X Agree to Dismiss Lawsuit Over Social Media Ban

Former U.S. President Donald Trump was banned from Twitter (now X) following the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. In response, he filed a lawsuit against the social media platform. However, in 2022, a federal court dismissed the case, though Trump’s legal team continued to appeal the decision.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk acquired Twitter and reinstated Trump’s account. Other platforms, including Facebook, also lifted their bans on the former president. Despite this, Trump has primarily continued his social media activities on his own platform, Truth Social.

A recent court filing indicates that both Trump and X have agreed to dismiss the lawsuit. However, it does not mention whether any specific settlement was reached between the two parties.

In a related development, Meta agreed in January of this year to pay $25 million to settle another lawsuit regarding Trump’s previous bans on Facebook and Instagram.
