Fugitive Swechchhasebak League Leader Arrested After Misleading Social Media Post

Police have arrested Rajib Ahmed Helu, President of the Austagram Upazila Swechchhasebak League and the Austagram Traders’ Association, from Madhurhati in Kishoreganj after he posted “Biday Bangladesh” (Goodbye Bangladesh) on Facebook, allegedly to mislead authorities.
According to police sources, Rajib Ahmed Helu has been a fugitive since August 5, facing charges in three separate cases related to subversive activities filed with Austagram Police Station. Following the charges, he went into hiding. On January 31, he posted a photograph taken in front of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on his personal Facebook account with the caption, “Biday Bangladesh.” The post reportedly misled law enforcement agencies into believing he had left the country while he was actually hiding at his home in Austagram Sadar Union.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted an operation on Monday night in Madhurhati and arrested him.
Confirming the arrest, Austagram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ruhul Amin stated, “The arrested Swechchhasebak League leader, Rajib, was a fugitive in three cases, including charges of sabotage. He will be presented before the court on Tuesday.”
