OpenAI’s ChatGPT Ad Revenue Hits $1 Billion Run Rate
OpenAI, a leading technology company in the artificial intelligence sector, has announced that the annualized revenue run rate of its ChatGPT advertising platform has reached $1 billion in less than 200 days since its launch. As part of its preparations for an initial public offering (IPO), the company is placing particular emphasis on advertising revenue to strengthen its overall growth.
Expansion into International Markets
Following its success in the U.S. market, OpenAI has announced that its ChatGPT Ads Manager service will now be made available to advertisers in India, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. As a result, businesses in these regions will be able to promote their products directly on ChatGPT without relying on intermediaries.
OpenAI said a significant portion of its advertising revenue comes from small and medium-sized businesses around the world. At present, these advertisements are being shown to users of the free version of ChatGPT as well as the lower-cost Go plan.
Targets and Global Competition
Although OpenAI’s rapid growth is being viewed as a major achievement, market analysts believe the company still faces several challenges. Technology research firm eMarketer said that reaching a $1 billion annualized run rate in such a short period is impressive, but the pace is somewhat slower than OpenAI’s own target of $2.5 billion for 2026. To reach that goal, the company will need to accelerate advertising revenue growth during the remainder of the year.
To establish a stronger position in the global online advertising market, OpenAI is facing direct competition from technology giants such as Google, controlled by Alphabet, and Meta, the parent company of Facebook.
Alongside making artificial intelligence accessible to users worldwide, the U.S.-based AI company is focusing on building a sustainable and diversified revenue model combining subscriptions, API services and advertising income.
