Chief Advisor Congratulates on Starlink's Launch in Bangladesh

Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor, has congratulated all stakeholders on the official launch of Starlink's services in Bangladesh. The announcement was made by his deputy press secretary, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, via a verified Facebook post on Tuesday, May 20.

"Starlink has officially launched its services in Bangladesh," the post stated. "The company confirmed the development this morning through a post on X (formerly Twitter)."

Starlink is initially introducing two packages—Starlink Residence and Residence Lite—with monthly fees set at BDT 6,000 and BDT 4,200 respectively. A one-time cost of BDT 47,000 will be required for setup equipment. Both packages offer unlimited data usage with speeds of up to 300 Mbps and no data caps.

Customers in Bangladesh can place their orders starting Tuesday.

How to Order

To acquire a Starlink connection, interested users must first register via the official Starlink website. Upon providing a specific address, availability will be verified. Afterward, users can select a package and proceed to purchase the hardware kit.

The standard kit includes a satellite dish, Wi-Fi router, mounting tripod, and cables. Once received, customers must activate the connection through the Starlink mobile app. Starlink also offers a 30-day satisfaction guarantee with a full refund if users are not satisfied.

Starlink's satellite-based internet requires an antenna similar to a television dish, which maintains a connection with satellites orbiting the Earth. The purchase includes the antenna, stand, Starlink cable, Gen-3 router, AC cable, and power adapter. The antenna is suitable for mounting in almost any location, including on moving objects like trains—provided there is a clear line of sight to the sky.

Once connected to the Starlink router, users can access high-speed internet even in remote areas such as mountains or forests. The router supports up to 254 devices simultaneously, though the company recommends keeping usage below 50 devices for optimal performance.

While the cost of Starlink’s service may be relatively high, it presents a sustainable and high-quality solution for premium users. It also offers a practical alternative in areas lacking fiber optic or fast internet connectivity, providing opportunities for NGOs, freelancers, and entrepreneurs to access uninterrupted high-speed internet year-round.

Starlink Services LLC, the first private company to launch satellites into low Earth orbit, is behind this global internet service. Its constellation of satellites—also called Starlink—is operated by Elon Musk’s aerospace company, SpaceX. The service now spans over 100 countries.

Starlink began its operations in May 2019 with the launch of 60 satellites. That number has since grown to over 7,000, all operating in low Earth orbit approximately 35,786 kilometers above the Earth’s surface.
