Yahoo Strikes Deal with Regent to Sell TechCrunch

Yahoo has finalized an agreement with investment firm Regent to sell TechCrunch, a leading technology news platform. The deal was confirmed in a joint statement released by both companies on Friday, as reported by Reuters.

A Strategic Shift in Ownership

TechCrunch is widely recognized for its in-depth analysis and reporting on global tech firms, startups, and entrepreneurs. It was previously part of Verizon Communications' media assets, which also included Yahoo.

In 2021, Apollo Global Management acquired Yahoo’s media assets for $5 billion and later rebranded and consolidated them under the Yahoo brand.

Regent’s Growing Media Portfolio

As part of its expansion in the technology media sector, Regent recently acquired Foundry, the parent company of several prominent publications such as PCWorld, Macworld, InfoWorld, CIO, and TechAdvisor.

While the financial terms of the TechCrunch acquisition have not been disclosed, the deal is expected to be finalized within the next few weeks.

Commenting on the acquisition, Yahoo stated, "We believe that under Regent, TechCrunch will have the opportunity to maintain its influence while also growing and evolving."

Yahoo continues to operate a diverse portfolio of media and digital services, including Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, Engadget, Yahoo Mail, and Yahoo Search.
