Breaking Barriers in Drug Discovery: A New Era in Pharmaceutical Research
A new era has dawned in drug discovery as advancements in chemical, biological, and clinical research open new horizons. Experts highlighted this transformative shift during a seminar titled “Drug Discovery and Drug Repurposing Based on Chemical, Biological, and Clinical Research”, organized by the Department of Pharmacy at Bangladesh University.
The keynote address was delivered by Professor Dr. S. M. Abdur Rahman, Director of Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacology, and Biomedical Research at Dhaka University. The seminar, held on Tuesday (February 25, 2025) at the university auditorium, featured Brigadier General Mahbubul Haque (Retd.), Registrar of Bangladesh University, as the chief guest. The session was presided over by Professor Abul Kalam Azad, Chairman of the Pharmacy Department at Bangladesh University.
In his keynote speech, Professor Rahman stated, “A new era in drug research has begun in our country. Recent studies integrating chemical, biological, and clinical research have revolutionized the process of drug discovery and repurposing. This initiative not only opens new avenues for curing diseases but also paves the way for groundbreaking advancements in healthcare.”
He further emphasized that the primary goal of this research is to develop more effective and safer medications. “The integration of advanced chemical analysis, biological technologies, and clinical trials has made the drug development process faster and more precise. These innovations have the potential to bring revolutionary changes in the treatment of genetic, viral, and infectious diseases,” he added.
Professor Rahman also noted, “Our objective is to create drugs that are more effective in curing diseases while minimizing side effects. Through drug repurposing, older medications can be given new life and applications.”
The seminar underscored the belief that such initiatives will not only advance scientific research in Bangladesh’s healthcare sector but also strengthen the country’s role on the global stage.
The event was attended by students, faculty members, and officials from the Department of Pharmacy.
