Apple TV Plus has made history by winning an Oscar as the first streaming service with the movie 'Koda'. Director Jane Campion won the Best Director award for the movie. He shared this glory in a fierce battle with Netflix's acclaimed 'Power of the Dog' movie in the race for the best movie. ‘Koda’ was released at the Sundance Film Festival in 2021. Then Apple TV Plus bought the movie for a record 25 million dollars. The film won awards one after another throughout the awards season; won the 'Producers Guild', 'Screen Actors Guild' and 'Writers Guild' awards. However, in 2017, the Cannes Film Festival did not allow streaming services to compete for their highest award, the Palm D'Or. But with theaters closed in 2020 due to a global pandemic, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has moved away from the requirement of ‘at least seven days in theaters’ to compete for the Oscars. Movies released on streaming services then got a chance to apply for this honor. One year before this, in November 2019, Apple TV Plus was launched with some series of its own production. The first major success since its debut was in September 2021; Best Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards for Best Comedy Film with Ted Lasso. And this time 'Koda' with the best movie award for the best film at the Oscars. Apple Plus will undoubtedly stand as a milestone in the streaming sector.
