Mobile Allowance Expands In Pay Scale
• Mobile and digital communication allowances extended to all grades
• Monthly BDT 3,000 allowance introduced for special needs children
• Basic salary increases up to 142 percent across grades
The government has expanded mobile and digital communication allowances across all public service grades to address rising digital connectivity costs. Details of the newly approved national pay scale were presented during a press conference by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani on Monday (August 31, 2026), following a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Under the new digital infrastructure provisions, mobile allowances will apply to every employee grade, replacing the previous restriction that served only Grade-5 officers. The updated pay structure also introduces a monthly allowance of BDT 3,000 for government employees with special needs children. The approved policy retains 20 pay grades while boosting basic salaries by 100 to 142 percent.
Implementation of the basic salary adjustment will occur in three phased stages across the 2026-27 and 2027-28 fiscal years, backdated to July 1, 2026. However, all digital allowances and related financial benefits will take full effect on January 1, 2028. Principal Information Officer of the Press Information Department Syed Abdal Ahmad was also present during the briefing.
