- Flood affected farmers in five districts of Chittagong will receive free seeds and saplings
- All livestock in flood hit areas will be vaccinated against FMD within fifteen days
- Government plans to setup two thousand mini cold storages across the nation
Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid stated that paddy seeds and seedlings will be provided to flood-affected farmers in five districts of Chittagong, and one hundred percent of livestock will be vaccinated within fifteen days. The Minister inaugurated the distribution of paddy seeds and materials among affected farmers, fish farmers, and cattle farmers, alongside the livestock vaccination drive in Dohazari of Chandanaish Upazila, Chittagong.
On Friday, July 17, the Minister made these remarks while briefing journalists after the inauguration. Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Abdur Rahim, Director of the Department of Livestock Services Dr. Md. Boyzar Rahman, and Director of the Chittagong Divisional Department of Fisheries Md. Anwar Hossain, along with senior officials from relevant departments, were present.
The Minister stated, "The seedbeds of Aman rice have been damaged the most in the ongoing flood. To tackle the situation, seeds have been arranged by collecting data through union and block-level officials. Alternative seedbeds have been prepared for those whose lands are still submerged. The biggest risk after a flood is Foot-and-Mouth Disease, so a massive vaccination campaign has started today." Additionally, thirty-five lakh taka has been allocated in the first phase to counter the cattle feed crisis, and a field survey is underway to determine the exact amount of losses to rehabilitate fish farmers. He also mentioned plans to gradually set up nearly two thousand mini cold storages across the country to help farmers store their products.
