Ruhul Amin, Sheikh Sadi Elected to JUST Journalists’ Body

Ruhul Amin, university correspondent of Daily Amar Sangbad, has been elected president, while Sheikh Sadi Bhuiyan, university correspondent of The Asian Age, has been elected general secretary of the Jashore University of Science and Technology Journalists’ Association (JUSTJA) in its 6th executive council election.

A total of 14 candidates contested for seven posts in the election.

The polls were held on Sunday, December 21, at the office of the Chief Election Commissioner, located in the university’s Student Counseling and Guidance Department. After vote counting, the election commission announced the results at 3:30 pm.

JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Abdul Majid and Treasurer Professor Dr Hossain Al Mamun visited the venue as election observers. They expressed satisfaction with the democratic process and advised the association to maintain this continuity in the future.

Among other elected office-bearers, Mostafa Galib, university correspondent of Daily Naya Diganta, was elected vice-president uncontested. Tanvir Khandaker of Daily Jugantor was elected joint general secretary, Md Rakibul Hasan Tarek of The Daily Sunshine as treasurer, Md Imran Hossain of Daily Janakantha as publicity, publication and office secretary, and Rokaiya of Report Ekattor as executive member.

The election was conducted under the supervision of Dr Md Rafiul Hasan, Director of the Student Counseling and Guidance Department, who served as Chief Election Commissioner. Dr Md Hamidur Rahman, representing the acting proctor, and Md Nazmul Hossain, the university’s information officer, served as election commissioners.

Earlier, the voter list was published on December 14. Nomination forms were distributed from December 15 to December 17, submissions were received on December 17, nomination withdrawals took place on December 20, and the final list of candidates was published later that afternoon.
