Cybersecurity firm Sophos has launched its new Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR) service. The new service enhances the protection capabilities of Sophos XDR and Sophos MDR within client organizations.

With ITDR, organizations will be able to monitor identity-related data theft and misconfigurations. The service will also scan the dark web for stolen passwords. As a result, companies can quickly detect identity-based cyberattacks and identify risky activities within their systems.

According to Sophos X-Ops Counter Threat Unit, stolen passwords increased by 106 percent between June 2024 and June 2025. These stolen passwords are primarily sold on the dark web. The Sophos Active Adversary Report shows that for the second consecutive year, password theft was the leading cause of cyberattacks within Sophos MDR and Incident Response investigations. In 56 percent of these cases, attackers used valid passwords to log into remote services.
