Digital Double Blow: Islami Bank’s Facebook Page Hacked Again

The verified Facebook page of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has fallen victim to hackers twice within just four hours of being restored. According to bank sources, hackers regained control of the page again at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 3.

At 8:28 p.m., the hackers changed the page’s profile and cover photos, and a minute later, they posted, “Page hacked?”.

Earlier in the afternoon, the bank’s public relations department had announced that it had regained control of the page with assistance from Facebook authorities, following an earlier breach at dawn the same day. However, barely 15 minutes after restoration, the hackers struck again.

At 8:32 p.m., the hackers posted another message: “Hello dear Islami Bank so-called experts.” They made another lengthy post at 9:22 p.m., identifying themselves, as before, as “MS 470 X.”

Nazrul Islam, Head of Public Relations at Islami Bank, told the media, “We had regained control of the page just a few hours ago. But suddenly, it has fallen into the hackers’ hands again. We are now communicating anew with Facebook authorities.”

In the first attack, carried out at dawn, the hacker group “MS 470 X” changed the profile and cover photos of the page, inserting their own logo. In a post, they claimed responsibility, stating that the move was “a protest against the unethical activities of Islami Bank,” and demanded the reinstatement of dismissed employees. That post was later deleted.

The incident comes amid a major downsizing effort at Islami Bank, where more than 400 officers have been terminated, many others have resigned voluntarily, and nearly 5,000 have been made OSD (Officers on Special Duty) for failing to take part in a special evaluation test. The bank has also recently announced new recruitment, making the social media hacking incident particularly significant in the current context.

Sources say the bank’s IT team and law enforcement agencies are now working together to address the breach.

The hackers also posted a series of messages in English that read:

“Hello, dear mango people,

We have regained access again because many so-called experts claim that if they verify your Business Manager, your system will never be hacked.

We tell them: the Business Managers we control were already verified. We don’t break systems; we build systems. And everyone should remember that.

No one online is truly safe. Those who advise verifying your Business Manager are themselves victims of hacking.

Don’t entrust your security to so-called experts. Secure your system yourself.

And remember our name — MS 470X. We didn’t come to harm anyone; we came to raise awareness and help people stay safe.

We observe everything closely. Never think you are 100% safe. There’s always someone smarter than you.

If you ever gain special access to something, don’t misuse it.

Lol, my friend Zuker.”
