iPhone Integrity Issues: i17 Pro Scratches Spark Scrutiny

Concerns have emerged over the durability of Apple’s recently launched iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models, particularly regarding scratches and scuffs appearing on the sharp edges of the camera bump, reported The Verge.
Technology blogger Jack Nelson demonstrated in a test on his YouTube channel, JerryRigEverything, that the anodized aluminum layer does not adhere properly at the corners. As a result, normal contact with coins, keys, or similar objects can wear down the edge coating.
Nelson noted, “Apple deliberately designed the camera section without any chamfer or curve, which looks appealing but could cause issues for users over time.” While scratches on flat surfaces appear as dust-like marks and can be easily cleaned, the edge coating peeling gives the appearance of permanent damage.
A Bloomberg report added that new demo units displayed in Apple stores showed scratch marks within just a few hours, particularly on the deep blue iPhone 17 Pro and the black iPhone Air models.
Experts advise using a protective case with the new devices, emphasizing that scratches mainly affect external aesthetics rather than the device’s functionality.
