A unique blend of drone technology and hands-on, real-life learning unfolded at the Junior Drone Pilot Workshop, held on Saturday, July 19, at the Space Innovation Camp Academy located in the Bashundhara residential area of Dhaka. Organized by Space Innovation Camp, the event provided basic training in drone operation to 24 children aged between 4 and 14, divided into four age-based groups.

Trainers Utsav Nandi, Saiful Islam, and Abdullah Al Mamun guided the children through the fundamentals of drone mechanics in a simple, engaging manner. From how drones work to the science behind them, the role of propellers, balance control, sensor functionality, and battery-powered flight techniques—every aspect was demonstrated through hands-on learning. The young participants also experienced real-time flying in designated safe and low-altitude zones under full supervision.

Brigadier General M. Mofizur Rahman, CMC (Retd.), former Commandant of the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), attended as the chief guest. He remarked, “Today’s initiative is truly commendable. Activities like this plant the seed of technology in young minds and pave the way for a science-minded, innovative generation. Drones are no longer just toys—they’re used in agriculture, healthcare, rescue operations, and even space research. Workshops like these boost children’s confidence, analytical abilities, and problem-solving skills from an early age.”

He added, “When we see four- and five-year-olds eagerly learning about drone propellers, batteries, sensors, and control systems, we feel hopeful that among them could be future scientists, aviation experts, or tech entrepreneurs. The real aim of education is to ignite curiosity, and Space Innovation Camp is successfully doing that. I thank the organizers for this timely and groundbreaking initiative.”

Ariful Hasan Apu, President of Space Innovation Camp, commented, “We believe that the fusion of technology and practical experience is what creates future innovators. Today’s participants didn’t just learn how to fly drones—they learned how technology can be safely and responsibly used to solve real-world problems.”

He further mentioned that due to the positive response and enthusiasm, similar training camps will be held in the coming months. “We’re working on space, robotics, drones, and space research, and hands-on educational programs like this will continue under the banner of Space Innovation Camp,” he concluded.
