Digital Relief: No Tax Proof for E-Commerce, Credit Cards
In a move expected to ease operations for small digital entrepreneurs and e-commerce businesses, the government has waived the requirement of submitting tax return documents when applying for licenses from licensing authorities for e-commerce operations during the current fiscal year.
Similarly, individuals applying for or renewing credit cards will no longer need to submit proof of tax return filings, a requirement that had been in place until now.
The tax relief also extends to regular individual taxpayers who earn commissions, fees, or any form of monetary income through mobile financial services, electronic fund transfers, or mobile phone recharges. These transactions will now be exempt from requiring return submission proof.
This decision brings a degree of relief to digital commerce operators and cottage-level entrepreneurs who often face procedural burdens.
Beyond these sectors, ten additional areas have also been included under this exemption. These include acquiring new trade licenses in city corporation or municipal areas, obtaining new licenses for surveyors enlisted with general insurance companies, opening or maintaining term deposits of up to Tk 1 million, and registering cooperative societies. In these cases too, tax return submission proof will no longer be required.
The policy change is seen as part of the government’s broader initiative to streamline procedures and promote financial inclusion in the digital economy.
