Semiconductor Strategy Secures Sectoral Support

The National Semiconductor Taskforce has formulated a comprehensive roadmap centered around three core pillars—design, fabrication, and testing—to develop Bangladesh’s semiconductor ecosystem. The plan was officially submitted to the Chief Adviser on July 3. Among the short-term recommendations for the fiscal year 2025–26 are the launch of a virtual knowledge portal offering tiered certification programs based on globally recognized and industry-backed curricula, and the establishment of industry-grade training laboratories at a minimum of five public or private institutions by 2027.
Welcoming the recommendations, the Bangladesh Semiconductor Industry Association (BSIA) issued a press statement on Sunday, July 6. Applauding the inclusive and forward-looking vision of the taskforce, BSIA leaders noted that the proposed roadmap effectively aligns with Bangladesh’s growing capabilities in chip design and testing. They emphasized that the involvement of government policymakers, academia, industry representatives, and expatriate Bangladeshi experts in formulating the roadmap reflects a well-integrated national approach. The association also expressed satisfaction over the incorporation of several of its earlier proposals into the final recommendations.
BSIA highlighted four recommendations in particular: development of skilled human resources through lab infrastructure and university-industry collaboration; creation of a “Semiconductor Fund” to support venture capital and term financing; provision of tax holiday incentives for at least 10 years; and securing a strong global footprint for Bangladesh’s semiconductor sector.
However, BSIA called for the inclusion of an additional proposal—offering cash incentives on export earnings in the semiconductor sector, similar to other high-priority sectors. The organization expressed optimism that the recommendation package will contribute significantly to the international expansion of local semiconductor enterprises.
Commenting on the Taskforce’s proposal, BSIA President Md. Abdul Jabbar said, “Several BSIA members actively participated in drafting the recommendations as part of the National Taskforce, and we are proud of that involvement. BSIA is committed to building a vibrant semiconductor ecosystem in collaboration with the government and all stakeholders. We sincerely thank all Taskforce members, including the Executive Chairman of BIDA, for their contributions. We believe that if implemented effectively, these recommendations will help establish Bangladesh's semiconductor sector as a globally competitive industry.”
