Times Higher Education (THE) released its Impact Rankings 2025 on Wednesday, 18 June. Australia’s Western Sydney University claimed the top spot, followed by England’s University of Manchester. Eight public and twelve private institutions from Bangladesh made the global list, underscoring the country’s growing commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Among the 20 Bangladeshi universities ranked, Daffodil International University (DIU) achieved the nation’s highest placement in the 101–200 bracket worldwide. Jointly occupying second place for Bangladesh—in the 601–800 range—are American International University‑Bangladesh, BRAC University, Green University of Bangladesh, and United International University.

On the public side, Gazipur Agricultural University led the pack, ranking in the 801–1000 tier globally. Other public institutions on the list include Bangladesh Agricultural University, Jahangirnagar University, Jashore University of Science and Technology, the University of Dhaka, University of Rajshahi, Khulna University, and the University of Chittagong.

Additional private‑sector entrants comprise the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, Independent University, Bangladesh, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, World University of Bangladesh, Dhaka International University, State University of Bangladesh, and Barendra University.

The Impact Rankings evaluate progress across 17 SDGs, ranging from No Poverty and Zero Hunger to Climate Action and Partnerships for the Goals. DIU garnered notable positions in several categories, securing 19th globally for Quality Education (SDG 4) and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17); 33rd for Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8); 36th for No Poverty (SDG 1); 53rd for Zero Hunger (SDG 2); and 60th for Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10).

DIU’s leadership described the outcome as “a reflection of the university’s deep commitment to sustainability, inclusive development, and global impact,” adding, “We sincerely thank our faculty, dedicated staff, talented students, proud alumni, and valued partners for being part of this journey and shining together on the global stage.”

University officials noted that these achievements stem from year‑round research initiatives and a steady calendar of events tied to the SDGs—evidence, they said, of Bangladesh’s advancing culture of knowledge, collaboration, and technology‑enabled learning.
