Engro Eyes Expansion: Pakistan Firm Explores Telecom and Energy Investment in Bangladesh

Pakistan’s Engro Holdings has shown significant interest in Bangladesh’s telecommunications sector, signaling potential investments in both telecom and energy. During a visit to explore business prospects in the country, Engro CEO Abdul Samad Dawood met with Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus on Thursday (April 10) at the State Guest House Jamuna.
Expressing optimism about Bangladesh’s market, Dawood said, “We are very interested in the potential of the telecommunications sector in Bangladesh and see strong commitment in supporting gas distribution from Bhola to fuel industrial growth.”
Welcoming this interest, Professor Yunus emphasized the importance of sustainable and forward-thinking collaboration. He stated, “We should focus on long-term projects that bring real improvements to the lives of our people.”
Dawood, who is in Dhaka to attend the Bangladesh Investment Summit organized by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), praised the four-day conference. “The BIDA summit had a human touch—it felt warm, welcoming, and purposeful. I was amazed to see so many top-tier companies represented under one roof,” he remarked.
Encouraging further engagement, Professor Yunus invited Engro’s leadership to return for deeper exploration of collaborative opportunities. “I welcome you to come again. Bangladesh has so much to offer—not just for investors, but for the global community,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Advisor’s Special Envoy for International Affairs Lutfey Siddiqi, SDG Coordinator Lamia Morshed, and Principal Secretary Sirajuddin Sathi.
