Partially Decomposed Body Found at Under-Construction PUST Building
Police have recovered the partially decomposed body of an unidentified young man from an under-construction building at Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST). The discovery was made around 7:30 PM on Wednesday, when a team from Pabna Sadar Police Station retrieved the body from the 10th floor of a yet-to-be-inaugurated dormitory building.
According to university sources, although the construction of the building has been completed, it has not yet been officially handed over to the university authorities. On April 8, technical testing began on the premises. While conducting hammer tests and other assessments in the morning, a testing team noticed a foul odor and immediately alerted the university administration. In response, the administration informed Pabna Sadar Police Station and other relevant units of the district police.
Superintendent of Police Murtaża Ali Khan stated, “Initial observations suggest the death occurred several days ago. From the preliminary investigation, it appears to be a case of suicide. Although the body was found lying on the floor, a noose was discovered around the neck. It is suspected that after the person hanged himself, the rope eventually gave way under the weight of the decomposing body.”
He added, “The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed. A crime scene investigation team is working on-site. A smartphone was recovered with the body, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.”
PUST Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam commented, “We immediately informed the police after being notified. The police have taken the body into their custody. More information will come to light following the investigation.”
