Rooftop Solar Feed-in Tariff Set at BDT 10.50

To bolster long-term energy security and promote renewable integration, the government has unveiled a special incentive package for rooftop solar systems equipped with battery storage. According to a gazette notification issued on Tuesday (September 1, 2026), the revised financial incentives and net metering operational rules officially came into force on September 1, 2026.

Following an analysis of contemporary equipment markets and utility tenders, the baseline levellized cost of power generation for battery-backed rooftop solar was benchmarked at BDT 8.00 per unit. Under the special framework, a 20 percent profit margin alongside an 11.25 percent premium has been added, setting the final grid feed-in tariff at BDT 10.50 per unit. If an installer optimizes capital expenditure below the standard baseline, the additional savings will be retained by the consumer as dividend yield.

Under the Net Metering Guidelines 2025, consumers who commission their rooftop solar facilities by February 28, 2027, and export surplus energy back to the national grid will receive the BDT 10.50/unit rate for three consecutive years ending February 28, 2030. Power distribution utilities will manage metering records and disburse incentive payments exclusively via bank transfers or mobile financial services (MFS); cash payments are strictly prohibited. Additionally, all solar modules, storage batteries, and grid-tied inverters must strictly comply with standards certified by BSTI and SREDA. Technical guidance will be facilitated through dedicated One-Stop Service Centers and regional utility offices nationwide.
