Standards Shift: Kazi Imdadul Haque Takes Charge at BSTI
Kazi Imdadul Haque, a secretary-ranked official, has joined as the Director General of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). The recently retired Tax Commissioner of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) assumed the position on a contractual basis on Sunday (May 3). He is a well-known figure in the country’s revenue administration, research, and literary circles.
A senior officer from the 7th batch of the BCS (Tax) cadre, he served as President of the Taxes Appellate Tribunal and as a Tax Commissioner at the NBR during his more than three-decade-long career. Since joining the civil service in 1988, he has demonstrated excellence across various levels of administration, including the Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU). He has also represented Bangladesh globally on international tax policy and Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements (DTAA). From 2001 to 2004, he successfully served as the Private Secretary to the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications.
In his academic life, Kazi Imdadul Haque secured first position in first class in his MSc from the Department of Soil, Water and Environment at the University of Dhaka. Alongside his administrative responsibilities, he is a distinguished researcher and writer; his research-based book “Black Money” has been widely discussed. He has also contributed to raising tax awareness by hosting television programs on income tax and continues to contribute to both the civil service and cultural spheres through regular literary activities.
