Google Doodle Marks Bangladesh Independence Day with National Flag
On March 26, 1971, a new nation named Bangladesh declared its emergence on the world map. Today marks the country’s 55th anniversary. To honor the day, a series of national programs have been organized across the country. Yet, just as the dark night of March 25, 1971 left deep scars, this year’s Independence Day eve also brought grief to many netizens. Joy turned to sorrow when a bus namde 'shouhardo' plunged into the Padma River, claiming fresh lives as people were returning to work after Eid. Images, videos, and live broadcasts of grieving families flooded social media, casting a shadow over the celebrations.
Against this backdrop, Google paid tribute to Bangladesh’s Independence Day by featuring the national flag in a special doodle on its search engine. From 12:01 a.m. on March 26, users in Bangladesh have been able to see the doodle. Tapping on it reveals the message “Bangladesh Independence Day.” The artwork shows the Google logo set against a blue sky with white clouds, while the red-and-green flag of Bangladesh flutters proudly in the foreground.
Hovering over the doodle displays the text “Bangladesh Independence Day 2026.” Clicking on it directs users to search results related to the country’s Independence Day. The doodle is visible only in Bangladesh.
Since 2013, Google has been publishing such doodles to commemorate special days and notable figures around the world. Continuing that tradition, it has honored Bangladesh’s National Day with this symbolic gesture.
