Charger Blast Burns Four Homes in Chapainawabganj

A fire reportedly triggered by a smartphone charger explosion has destroyed four houses in Bholahat upazila of Chapainawabganj. The incident occurred on the afternoon of February 15 in Poladanga village, with an estimated loss of property worth around Tk 900,000, according to claims by the affected families.

Sources said the fire broke out at the home of Ziaur Rahman in Poladanga village while a mobile phone was being charged. The charger suddenly exploded, and within moments, flames spread from inside the house to adjacent homes belonging to Md. Tara, Md. Tarikul Islam, and Mosa. Chandu Begum.

Upon receiving information from locals, a unit of the Bholahat Fire Service rushed to the scene. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after nearly an hour of effort.

Regarding the origin of the fire, Krishna Prasad Talapatra, Acting Station Master of Bholahat Fire Service Station, said that preliminary assessments suggest the fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit or the charger explosion. He confirmed that four families suffered extensive damage as a result of the incident.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported. However, furniture, food grains, and cash amounting to Tk 330,000 kept inside wardrobes were completely burned to ashes. The victims estimate the total loss at approximately Tk 900,000.

Speaking on the matter, Bholahat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Shahin Mahmud said the administration has been informed of the incident and necessary assistance will be arranged for the affected families.
