Chittagong Independent University (CIU) inaugurated its Cleanliness Awareness Campaign 2025 under the theme “Let’s Keep Chittagong Clean,” with the ceremony led by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.

The program, held on Monday, September 22, was jointly organized by CIU, YoungOne Corporation, and Korea EPZ, with the support of Chittagong City Corporation.

Addressing the gathering, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said, “I thank the city residents, civil society, educators, students, and city administration for taking effective steps to tackle waterlogging in Chittagong. We are working on three Rs: Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse. To manage waste efficiently, we can use two-color bin bags—one for biodegradable and the other for non-biodegradable waste. Those who fail to use these should face fines. Without enforcing fines, waste management cannot be effective. Additionally, starting initiatives to produce fertilizer and electricity from waste is now a necessity.”

He further emphasized, “Creating a clean city requires awareness, participation, and collective action. I urge the younger generation to play a leading role not only in urban cleanliness and environmental protection but also in raising awareness among city residents.”

In his speech, Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation, said, “There is no alternative to joint efforts in building a modern and healthy Chittagong. To create a planned city, urban planning is indispensable.”

Ki-hak Sung, Chairman and CEO of YoungOne Corporation and Korea EPZ, said, “We want to make this city clean and beautiful, so we are supporting this initiative. Our 60,000 employees will cooperate in this effort.”

The ceremony, presided over by CIU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. M. Nurul Absar, was attended by the University’s Trustee Board Chairman Lutfe M. Ayub, Syed Mahmudul Haque, Editor of Daily Azad M. A. Malek, Chairman of Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Engineer Md. Nurul Karim, as well as teachers and students from various schools and CIU.

On the occasion, a rally was held, starting from the CIU campus, passing through Shah Walliullah Institute and Cheragimor, and returning to the campus to conclude the event.
