JUST Jumpstarts IELTS Journey
Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) recently conducted its first-ever three-day training workshop on IELTS, aimed at enhancing students’ higher education preparedness, overseas study readiness, and proficiency in the four key skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The workshop took place from August 17 to 19.
Organized by the Student Counseling and Guidance Department under the ‘You Can Do It’ program, and in collaboration with the Just Research Society, the workshop titled “How to Start IELTS Preparation” was held at the Professor Mohammad Sharif Hossain Gallery of the Kazi Nazrul Islam Academic Building. The program was inaugurated on Sunday, August 17, by JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid.
Addressing the closing ceremony on Tuesday, August 19, the Vice-Chancellor said, “JUST will be a source of skilled manpower. In this competitive world, if we cannot develop our students as competent professionals, they will fall behind. For this reason, the university has taken multiple initiatives to enhance student skills. This training workshop is one of them. Students will gain comprehensive knowledge about the process of studying abroad and IELTS before they complete their university life. We have already launched research fellowships, and decided to establish an Innovation and Startup Support Cell. Additionally, we have started a soft skills and advanced language proficiency development course to improve English as well as a third language and computer skills. I believe such initiatives will help build you into a skilled workforce.”
The three-day IELTS training featured former overseas students of JUST as instructors, including Shoaib Mahmud, Sojal, Al Saber Pias, Syed Anwar, and Asif Iqbal Jibon. The trainers provided guidance on the four IELTS skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—to nearly 1,500 students.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Dr. Md. Rafiul Hasan, Director of the Student Counseling and Guidance Department. Other attendees included the department’s Assistant Director Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Dr. Md. Sabbir Hossain, Dr. Shafi Ahmed, and students from various university departments.
