PSTU Students Stage Protest Over Brutal Murder of Businessman in Old Dhaka
General students of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PSTU) staged a protest march on Friday, July 11, condemning the brutal killing of businessman Sohag in front of Gate 3 of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka.
The protest began at 9:00 PM from the main gate of Student Hall-1 and moved through various key points of the campus before concluding with a protest rally at the Shaheed Minar.
During the march, students chanted slogans such as “Jubo Dal kills with stone skills,” “Abu Sayed Mugdha, the battle isn't over,” “Extortionists have no place in Bangladesh,” “Exploit us again, and action begins,” “Beware, Jubo Dal extortionists,” and “The fire of blood has been ignited.”
At the concluding rally, Mirajul Islam, a student of the Business Administration Department, said, “We witnessed such a gruesome murder in 2012, when a student leader brutally killed Bishwajit in broad daylight. Now Jubo Dal has repeated that horror. A businessman was murdered in public view with stones at Mitford. This incident casts a shadow over our dream of building a new Bangladesh. If fascism rises again, we—the student community—will resist it as we once brought down Hasina’s rule.”
He further added, “Even the members of this organization are not safe from each other. The nation is worried—if they come to power, a neo-fascist regime will emerge. From this gathering, we declare—if any autocracy tries to return, we will resist it, even at the cost of our blood.”
Rashedul Islam, a student of the Electrical, Electronic, and Communication Engineering (EECE) Department, said, “We remember the horrific October 28, 2006 killings with boat hooks and clubs that ushered in a period of fascism. We do not want history to repeat itself. The student community of Bangladesh has now awakened. Those who killed Sohag Bhai—no matter their political affiliation—must be brought to justice swiftly and a precedent must be set on this land.”
