Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have put forward a five-point demand, calling for the arrest and maximum punishment of all accused involved in the brutal killing of businessman Sohag in front of Mitford Hospital.

On Friday, July 11, following a protest march on campus, a student gathering was held at 11:00 PM beneath the Raju Memorial Sculpture at TSC, where Civil Engineering student Abdun Noor Tushar read out a written statement on behalf of the BUET students.

He said, “We are deeply shocked and concerned by the heinous murder of a businessman who was bludgeoned with a stone, stripped naked, and beaten to death in public. This gruesome killing, simply because he refused to pay extortion money, reflects the alarming moral and humanitarian decay in our society.”

He further stated, “After the incident, it was revealed that the accused, Mahin, is an influential activist of the Jubo Dal, the youth wing of BNP and an aspirant for the position of General Secretary of the local unit. He reportedly has a history of involvement in extortion and recruitment scams.”

The BUET students demanded swift and impartial justice in the Sohag murder case. They called for the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of all accused, including Mahin and Robin, strict action against extortion and recruitment scams across the country, an end to the culture of shielding criminals under political banners, and greater transparency and accountability at both administrative and political levels to prevent such atrocities in the future.
