Meta Moves Forward with Standalone AI Assistant App

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, has launched a standalone AI assistant app, positioning it as a direct competitor to AI-powered assistants developed by OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft. According to Reuters, the new Meta AI app will now be available as a separate platform beyond its previous integrations within Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.
The app promises more personalized services, leveraging contextual data and information from users’ Facebook and Instagram accounts. It is powered by Meta’s latest large language model, LLaMA 4, which features enhanced reasoning capabilities, multilingual support, and improved performance.
Meta has also announced that the assistant will be integrated with its smart AI glasses and will merge with the existing companion app for a seamless experience.
The announcement came during Meta’s first-ever AI developer event, LlamaCon, held on Tuesday.
