Mobile operators in Bangladesh are set to receive new spectrum within the current fiscal year, as the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) prepares for an upcoming spectrum auction.

The announcement was made by BTRC Chairman, Major General (Retd.) Md. Emdad Ul Bari, following the inauguration of the three-day Spectrum Symposium at Hotel Regency on Tuesday (February 18).

In response to a question from journalists, he stated, "At this moment, mobile operators will be allocated 25 MHz of spectrum from the 700 MHz band. This will enable grassroots-level customers to enjoy enhanced services, reducing call drops and network congestion."

When asked whether spectrum costs would be reduced, the BTRC Chairman explained, "The demand and supply of spectrum vary from country to country. The cost of spectrum in Bangladesh will be determined in alignment with local demand."

He further mentioned that during the three-day symposium, discussions would be held in accordance with ITU guidelines to shape future spectrum management strategies.
