Demonstrating world-class engineering capabilities on the international stage, "Team CUET C" from the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has been crowned global champion at the prestigious "ACI Mortar Workability Competition 2026," held in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. In addition to securing the flagship championship title in the overall category, the team earned second place in the economic design segment.

Bangladesh’s engineering footprint was further bolstered by the student delegation from the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), which placed fourth in the overall competition. The IUT contingent also captured second place in the Environmental Design category as well as the "Aesthetics in Concrete" competition, bringing Bangladesh's collective tally to four major honors.

Organized by the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the global competition and convention unfolded between 11 and 14 October 2026 in Atlanta. Following an intensive international screening process of technical submissions, 40 finalist teams representing leading universities worldwide qualified to participate in the physical testing rounds in the United States.

The champion CUET team was mentored by Prof. Dr. G. M. Sadiqul Islam, Professor of Civil Engineering and Faculty Advisor of the ACI Student Chapter at CUET. The team members who competed in the United States included Khandakar Fahad Alam, Swarup Chandra Modak, Tanzim Musharrat Tushin, and Sumaiya Binte Mannan. Meanwhile, the IUT delegation, guided by ACI Bangladesh Chapter President Prof. Dr. Tarek Uddin, comprised Arina Tahrina Amin, Rajit Muhammad Chowdhury, Jasia Zubair, Lamia Tabassum, Ragib Shahriar, Md. Humayed Tahsin Haque, Md. Mahadi Hasan Niloy, and Md. Zubair Anjum.

The performance evaluations were conducted based on rigorous empirical parameters designed to encourage sustainable and durable construction technologies. Mortar flowability accounted for 50 percent of the total evaluation, while rheological stability comprised 20 percent. The remaining grading assessed environmental impact through embodied carbon reduction (10 percent), material cost-effectiveness (5 percent), and technical report quality (15 percent).

Reflecting on the global victory, team member Swarup Chandra Modak remarked that competing alongside the world's best institutions reaffirmed the potential of Bangladeshi engineers, emphasizing that given adequate institutional resources and research backing, local talent can lead international civil engineering innovations.

Team advisor Prof. Dr. G. M. Sadiqul Islam highlighted that while the CUET ACI Student Chapter has earned multiple international accolades in virtual formats since its inception in 2018, winning an in-person world championship on American soil was a long-cherished milestone. He noted that the achievement stands as a profound testament to the quality and global relevance of engineering education in Bangladesh, official sources confirmed.
