Anthropic, a leading U.S. artificial intelligence company, has signed a massive $35 billion cloud computing agreement with cloud service provider Lambda.

The bilateral agreement was reached to secure access to infrastructure at a state-of-the-art data center that is being developed in Nueces County, Texas.

A source directly familiar with the matter confirmed the information to international news agency Reuters.

Technology and Infrastructure Capacity

The new data center project in Texas, with a capacity of 350 megawatts, is being jointly developed by Hut 8, a company that has transformed itself from a cryptocurrency mining operation into an AI infrastructure provider.

Under the agreement, Anthropic will obtain additional cloud computing capacity from Nvidia-backed Lambda to meet the rapidly growing demand for its artificial intelligence chatbot Claude and programming tool Claude Code.

Anthropic is also planning to go public through an initial public offering (IPO) in the near future. With that goal in mind, the company has been continuously expanding its computing capacity.

Competition for AI Investment

Since the global rise of generative AI technology, demand for computing infrastructure and high-capacity data centers has increased dramatically. Leading semiconductor and AI chipmaker Nvidia is playing a key role as one of the catalysts behind this deal.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Nvidia itself is playing a major role in securing the lease for the main data center. Earlier last week, Anthropic also announced a massive $45 billion investment to obtain AI cloud services from a data center campus in West Virginia.

According to technology analysts, the infrastructure race among AI giants is becoming increasingly long-term as companies seek to strengthen their positions in the global market.
