Uber Expands Into ‘Everything App’ Push With Global Hotel Booking Rollout
Uber has taken a major step toward becoming a full-scale “travel solution” or everything app, moving beyond ride-sharing and food delivery. From now on, users will be able to book hotels anywhere in the world directly through the Uber app. The announcement was made on Wednesday, April 29, at Uber’s annual product showcase event, “Uber Go-Get.”
The feature has already been activated in the United States today and will be rolled out globally in phases.
Partnership with Expedia
To enable hotel booking, Uber has partnered with global travel company Expedia. Through this collaboration, users will be able to book rooms in more than 700,000 hotels worldwide directly from the Uber app. By tapping the “Hotels” button on the Uber home screen, users can search and select hotels based on their destination.
Special Benefits for Uber One Members
Premium subscribers of Uber’s membership program “Uber One” will receive attractive benefits. Users will earn 10 percent “Uber credit” on each hotel booking payment, which can later be used for Uber rides or food orders.
From June 1, Uber One members will be able to use their accumulated credits in any country where Uber operates. Previously, these credits could only be used within the user’s home country.
Travel Mode for Travelers
When traveling to a different city or country, the Uber app will automatically switch to “Travel Mode.” This mode will provide users with information about local Uber services, fare variations, and popular tourist attractions in the area. In addition, integration with Uber Eats will help users find restaurants, while “OpenTable” integration will allow table reservations.
Other New Features
Alongside hotel booking, Uber has announced several additional features:
- Vacation Rentals: By the end of the year, listings from Vrbo will be integrated into Uber, allowing users to book resorts or rental homes.
- Shop for Me: With this service, users can send a store name and product image, and an Uber representative will purchase and deliver the item to their home.
- Snacks in Uber Black: In select cities, passengers riding Uber Black or Reserve will be able to order food or drinks directly through the app, with drivers picking up requested snacks en route.
- AI Voice Booking: Ride and food orders can now be placed using AI-powered voice commands, allowing users to simply speak their requests.
Challenge to Elon Musk’s “X”?
Analysts say that while X under Elon Musk aimed to evolve into a WeChat-style “everything app,” Uber appears to be quietly advancing significantly in that direction. By integrating rides, food, groceries, hotels, and shopping into a single platform, Uber is positioning itself as a powerful digital ecosystem.
