Finland’s telecom equipment manufacturer Nokia has announced a $4 billion investment in the United States, primarily aimed at strengthening research, development, and production focused on AI-driven network connectivity. According to the company, $3.5 billion of the investment will go into R&D activities, while the remaining $500 million will be spent on manufacturing and infrastructure development in states such as Texas, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, reports Reuters.

Nokia currently operates more than a dozen facilities across North America and maintains its renowned Bell Labs in New Jersey. The company recently unveiled a new strategy emphasizing operational efficiency and increased focus on AI-powered technologies.

This major investment announcement comes after the profit-warning issued last July due to tariff hikes and a weakened dollar. As the US lacks domestic telecom equipment manufacturers, Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung remain the primary suppliers in the market.

Finland’s President Alexander Stubb stated that Nokia was a topic of discussion during an October meeting at the White House with US President Donald Trump. Nokia’s newly appointed CEO, Justin Hotard, said the company is prioritizing markets that value Western technology in its network business.
