Microsoft’s Security Stand Sparks System Shock
Tech giant Microsoft is reportedly facing a major “security crisis” as nearly 400 million Windows 10 users are set to lose access to critical security updates after October 14. According to Forbes, this impending change poses serious cybersecurity risks for users who do not opt into Microsoft’s new paid “Extended Support” program, which will be the only way to continue receiving updates.
Data shows that around 41 percent of all computers worldwide still operate on Windows 10. Many of these devices, however, cannot upgrade to Windows 11 due to hardware limitations — leaving millions of users exposed to potential cyberattacks and ransomware threats once support ends.
Consumer advocacy group PIRG has described the situation as “unprecedented,” blaming Microsoft’s strict hardware requirements for creating this vulnerability. The organization warned that when updates stop, “hackers will have a field day,” as millions of unprotected systems become easy targets for exploitation.
