The performance of TikTok Shop in the US market has reportedly been underwhelming, with the company undergoing its third round of layoffs since April. While the exact number of employees affected has not been disclosed, the development was reported by Bloomberg, according to a report by TechCrunch.

Launched nearly two years ago, TikTok Shop US offers a platform for selling various products and rewards creators with commissions for driving sales through their videos. Despite being TikTok’s fastest-growing business segment, its future in the American market remains uncertain.

Following former President Donald Trump’s directive to ban the app, Chinese parent company ByteDance was given a deadline to sell its US operations—an order that has since seen multiple extensions. Recently, Trump stated that discussions are underway with a potential buyer, amid rumors suggesting involvement of prominent venture capital investors.

The uncertainty continues to cast a shadow over TikTok’s commercial ambitions in the United States.
