Transatlantic Tech Treaty on the Horizon

The United Kingdom and the United States are set to sign a historic technology agreement, the British Embassy in Washington has announced ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to the UK. The deal aims to strengthen cooperation in the trillion-dollar technology sector, benefiting businesses and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic, according to Reuters.
While some details of the agreement remain under final negotiation, the embassy noted that artificial intelligence, semiconductors, telecommunications, and quantum computing will be prioritized. The UK’s newly appointed Minister for Technology, Liz Kendall, said, “Advanced technologies like AI and quantum computing will fundamentally transform our lives.”
President Trump is scheduled to arrive in the UK next Tuesday for his second state visit, staying for three days. Accompanying him will be top executives from the U.S. technology sector, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and OpenAI’s Sam Altman. Additionally, BlackRock plans to invest $700 million in a data center in the UK, Sky News reported.
Since the beginning of this year, both countries have released AI action plans. U.S.-based Anthropic and OpenAI are expanding operations in London, while UK firms, including DeepMind, are investing in transatlantic collaborations.
