Anwar Hossain Appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology
The government has appointed Md. Anwar Hossain, Vice Chairman (Additional Secretary) of the Export Promotion Bureau, as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
“Following his promotion to the rank of Secretary, he has been assigned this position,” a government notification confirmed on Tuesday, 19 August.
Alongside this appointment, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam has been transferred as Secretary of the Department of Technical and Madrasa Education, having previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the Public-Private Partnership Authority at the Secretary level.
Earlier, on 18 August, Md. Mokabbir Hossain, who was serving as Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, was appointed Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources. Rehana Parveen, while serving as Executive Chairman (Secretary) of the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA), has been named the new Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education.
On the same day, Abdullah Al Mamun, Director General of the Administration Division at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), was transferred to the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA). Mehedi-ul-Sahid, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, has been appointed to his former BTRC post.
This reshuffle follows an investigation that found evidence of negligence against Abdullah Al Mamun. On 30 July, the Department of Posts and Telecommunications stated that “as an officer in charge, he failed to safeguard government interests and neglected his professional duties by following unlawful instructions from his superior contrary to rules and regulations.” The investigation committee recommended his withdrawal from BTRC and advised the Ministry of Public Administration to take necessary action according to regulations.
