Nagad Administrator Elevated to Executive Director at Bangladesh Bank

Md. Motasim Billah, Administrator of the country’s mobile financial service provider Nagad, has been promoted to the highest regular position of Executive Director at Bangladesh Bank. In this regard, Bangladesh Bank issued an official directive on Thursday.

Motasim Billah was appointed as the Administrator of Nagad in February 2025 while serving as Director of the Bank Inspection Department at Bangladesh Bank’s Chattogram office.

He began his career in 1999 as an Assistant Director at Bangladesh Bank. Over his long career, he has held key responsibilities in the Bank Inspection Department, Central Bank Strengthening Project, Financial Sector Support Project, Offsite Supervision Department, and the Payment Systems Department.

He has played a significant role in modernizing the country’s payment systems. In particular, he led initiatives such as the TakaPay card scheme, NPSB migration, the Cashless Bangladesh program, and the introduction of Bangla QR.

Under the Central Bank Strengthening Project, jointly implemented by the World Bank and the Government of Bangladesh, he also made important contributions to the development of Bangladesh Bank’s IT infrastructure, human resource capacity, and the modernization of business processes.

Since assuming the role of Administrator of Nagad, the institution has seen expansion in both the scope and quality of its services over the past one year under his leadership. At the same time, transactions have nearly doubled, alongside notable improvements in technological capabilities.

In his academic life, he obtained BBA and MBA degrees from the University of Chattogram and a Master’s degree from the Department of Development Studies at the University of Dhaka. He has also participated in various international trainings and workshops on banking regulation, project management, business process re-engineering, and digital payments.
