Constable Charged over Chattogram Commissioner’s Walkie-talkie Command Leak
Police have arrested a constable named Aumi Dash on charges of leaking a walkie-talkie message issued by Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz.
He was detained from the Khulshi police station area late at night on Sunday, August 17. Later, a case was filed against him under the Official Secrets Act.
The arrested constable, Aumi Dash, was serving in CMP’s Telecom Unit but was temporarily on deputation at Khulshi Police Station. He hails from Patiya in Chattogram and is the son of Rajib Dash.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Mahmuda Begum said, “Disclosing confidential messages outside in violation of the Official Secrets Act is a serious crime. After investigation, he has been arrested.”
It may be noted that on the night of August 12, the Commissioner had directed field officers over walkie-talkie, instructing them to use live ammunition and to open fire immediately upon seeing any weapons or sharp objects. A video of this directive later spread across social media, creating concern within the administration. The investigation revealed that Constable Aumi Dash was involved in the leak of the message.
