Tandab Targeted: Shakib Khan's Eid Release Falls Victim to Piracy

“Tandab,” the latest film starring Shakib Khan and directed by Raihan Rafi, has fallen prey to piracy shortly after its Eid release. The film premiered on Eid day across seven branches of Star Cineplex, with a total of 28 screenings—tickets for which were sold online.

Reports reveal that short clips from the film began circulating on Facebook and other social media platforms the day after its release, initially prompting speculation that the leaks were part of a marketing strategy. However, it was soon confirmed that the entire film had been leaked online.

The leak dealt a major blow to the film's prospects at a time when producers and audiences were hopeful for another box office success. Full-length and partial HD footage of the movie began appearing across various Facebook groups and pages. It is suspected that the leak may have originated from outside Bangladesh, as the film had also been screened internationally.

Tandab marks Raihan Rafi’s seventh directorial venture and his second collaboration with Shakib Khan. When contacted for comment regarding the piracy, Rafi declined to speak to the media.

This is not the first time a Shakib Khan-starrer has been pirated. Earlier this year, his film Borbad, released during Eid-ul-Fitr, also suffered the same fate. At the time, producer Shahreen Akhtar claimed that piracy caused them an estimated loss of BDT 40 million.

Producer Shahriar Shakil had previously expressed concern about the threat of piracy. At a press conference held on June 8, he stated, “We are taking a strict stance against piracy. If anyone is caught recording in the theatre, we will take action. Our team is actively monitoring both social media and cinema halls.”

Despite these assurances and efforts, the measures ultimately failed to prevent the leak.
