Sound Vision Secures Spot as District’s Top Innovator with Smart Glasses for the Visually Impaired

The team “Sound Vision” from the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) has emerged as Dhaka district’s top young innovator by developing a smart glasses prototype for visually impaired individuals. Their invention, a sound-based specialized glasses designed to assist the blind, won the top prize in the “Smart Entrepreneur in Every District” competition, organized by Grameenphone Accelerator.

The team comprises final-year students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at UITS: Ishrak Chowdhury, Zobair Hasan, Masud Chowdhury, and Sadia Akter.

The glasses incorporate a live camera that acts as a second pair of eyes for visually impaired individuals, helping them navigate by giving directions and reading out written texts when necessary.

Among more than 50 projects submitted from Dhaka district, the smart glasses secured a spot in the top 20, impressing the judges at the final bootcamp held at GP House in Baridhara, Dhaka.

As part of the “Smart Entrepreneur in Every District” initiative, over 4,800 ideas were prototyped and showcased for potential business success at the bootcamp. The final bootcamp saw participation from over 250 innovators, with Sound Vision being awarded the first prize. As a result, the team received a dummy check of one lakh taka from Grameenphone.

Additionally, UITS’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Computer Science and Engineering Department (CSE) have extended their best wishes to the students for their future endeavors.
