Digitization eliminated the ‘Red tape’ culture: Telecom Minister

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that, since 2009, Digital Bangladesh has ensured transparency and accountability in administrative works which have eliminated the 'red tape' culture. Files now move digitally.

He emphasized the need to increase the accountability and responsibility of the government officials and said that if the administration is not active, the government cannot be active. I now digitally dispose of about 60 to 70 files per day. The Minister pointed out that as the speed of work has increased, there has also been an incredible change in terms of transparency and accountability.

While addressing as the chief guest at the award distribution ceremony of the officials of this department organized by the Department of Posts and Telecommunications on Tuesday (September 26) in the conference room of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications at the Bangladesh Secretariat, the minister expressed his thought about the digitization of official works.

Posts and Telecommunication Secretary Md. Khalilur Rahman presided over the event.

The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications highlighted the need for innovation for officials to face the challenges of the digital age and said, the more innovative you are, the more the government will move forward in digitization. He said, “You have the skills, competence and courage to face any challenge. He pointed out that the Department of Posts and Telecommunications has an immense role to deliver the benefits of the Digital Bangladesh program to the doorsteps of the people through the expansion of digital infrastructure”. He appreciated the role of the stakeholders in carrying forward the assigned responsibility of expanding the country's digital infrastructure including high-speed internet with efficiency and sincerity. He appreciated the role of the concerned officials of this department in ensuring uninterrupted telecommunication systems including the internet to keep people's life in motion during the covid pandemic.

BTCL, Submarine Cable Company Limited and Bangladesh Cable Shilpa Limited were honored with APA awards at the event. In addition, 27 officers and employees of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications were awarded for their sudden, hard-working and meritorious work in the fiscal year 2021-22.

Later, the Posts and Telecommunication Secretary distributed the awards and honors among them.
