DB Enhances Cyber Surveillance for Safe and Festive Eid Celebrations

To ensure a secure and festive atmosphere during Eid-ul-Fitr, the Cyber Team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has intensified online surveillance using advanced information technology. The team is also actively working to prevent misinformation and propaganda related to Eid and is closely monitoring online activities to curb counterfeit currency sales.
Increased Intelligence and Security Measures
On Saturday, March 29, at a press briefing held at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road, Additional Police Commissioner and Chief of DB Rezaul Karim outlined the security measures taken by the Detective Branch for Eid celebrations.
He stated, "DB has intensified intelligence surveillance more than ever before to prevent any subversive activities at financial institutions, shopping malls, railway stations, bus, and launch terminals ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr."
The DB Cyber Team is employing advanced digital monitoring tools to ensure security and combat any false propaganda in cyberspace. Additionally, proactive policing strategies have been deployed to ensure uninterrupted security across the city.
Comprehensive Law Enforcement Deployment
To maintain law and order during Eid, the DMP has strengthened its security operations across Dhaka city. As part of this initiative:
-
667 patrol teams of the DMP are deployed daily in two shifts across 50 police stations.
-
71 police checkpoints have been set up at key strategic locations to enhance security.
-
An auxiliary force has been deployed to assist the police in maintaining law and order.
Besides uniformed officers, multiple DB teams are working tirelessly to ensure safety. The DB 'Vanguard' unit is actively engaged in securing public spaces, including shopping malls, railway stations, and transport hubs.
Crackdown on Counterfeit Currency and Online Fraud
Addressing concerns over counterfeit currency, Rezaul Karim Mallik said, "DB is highly vigilant in preventing the production and distribution of fake currency ahead of Eid. Several individuals have already been arrested with a large quantity of counterfeit notes and equipment used in their production."
Additionally, the DB Cyber Team is actively monitoring online platforms to prevent the sale and distribution of counterfeit currency. He emphasized that the DB is now taking stricter actions than ever before against counterfeit currency operations.
Public Awareness and Collaboration
The DB Chief urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with the police to maintain security. He advised that shopping malls, businesses, and residential areas should strengthen their private security arrangements and maintain close communication with local police stations.
He also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities or security threats to the nearest police station, DB office, DMP control room, or the national emergency service (999). He assured that all informants' identities would remain confidential, and immediate action would be taken against any threats.
The press briefing was attended by Joint Police Commissioner (Admin & Intelligence-South) Mohammad Nasirul Islam, Joint Police Commissioner (Intelligence-North) Mohammad Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan, and Deputy Police Commissioner (Media & Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman.
