App-Based Paddy Collection and Smart Food Grain Targeting Announced
May 1, 2026 23:58

The target for procurement of parboiled rice and atap rice has not yet been finalized. Paddy will be collected directly from farmers through an app, and selected farmers will be required to complete online registration. In addition, rice will be procured from millers through contractual agreements. To ensure fair prices for farmers, the price of paddy has been set at 36 taka per kilogram. The procurement process will begin on May 30 and continue until August 31.

Following a previous decision, the government has taken a special initiative to support farmers in six haor-affected districts—Netrokona, Kishoreganj, Sunamganj, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj—who were impacted by sudden tidal surges, in storing and selling boro paddy and rice. For this purpose, the previously scheduled procurement date of May 15 has been advanced, and collection from farmers in the haor region will begin on May 3.

On Friday, May 1, this information was issued in a press release from the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Food.

The release stated that, according to the pre-scheduled timeline, paddy procurement from farmers in other districts will begin on May 3, 2026, and rice procurement will start on May 15, 2026. During the upcoming boro season, the government will purchase a total of 18 lakh metric tons of paddy and rice from the domestic market.

Of this, 5 lakh metric tons of paddy, 12 lakh metric tons of parboiled rice, and 1 lakh metric tons of atap rice will be procured. The procurement prices have been fixed at 36 taka per kilogram for paddy, 49 taka per kilogram for parboiled rice, and 48 taka per kilogram for atap rice. In addition to paddy and rice, 50,000 metric tons of wheat will also be purchased at 36 taka per kilogram. This procurement drive will continue until August 31.
