Bangladesh Railway Goes Fully Digital for Eid Ticket Sales

Ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, Bangladesh Railway has sold 100% of intercity train advance tickets online. The Eid travel rush officially began on Monday, March 24, with ticketed passengers boarding trains for their holiday journeys. On the same day, at 8:00 AM, advance ticket sales for post-Eid return journeys also commenced, which are also available exclusively online. Ticket sales for travel on April 3 have now begun.

To facilitate passengers, Bangladesh Railway has decided to issue tickets for western zone trains starting at 8:00 AM, while tickets for eastern zone trains will be available from 2:00 PM. According to this schedule, passengers purchasing tickets today will be able to travel on April 3.

As per Bangladesh Railway's directive, intercity train tickets for April 4 will be available on March 25, for April 5 on March 26, for April 6 on March 27, for April 7 on March 28, for April 8 on March 29, and for April 9 on March 30. Additionally, ticket sales for March 31, April 1, and April 2 will be determined based on the sighting of the moon.

All advance Eid travel tickets must be purchased online. Furthermore, all intercity trains operating to various destinations will run without their usual weekly day-offs from March 27 until the day before Eid. However, regular weekly day-offs will be reinstated after Eid, and no intercity trains will operate on Eid day itself.

Based on passenger demand, 25% of tickets will be available at the departure station before the journey begins. Each passenger is allowed to purchase tickets only once and can book a maximum of four seats. Tickets are non-refundable.

Unlike previous years when 8 to 10 pairs of special Eid trains were operated, this year, the railway authorities have reduced the number to five pairs. The special train services are as follows:

The Chandpur Eid Special 1 & 2 will operate on the Chattogram-Chandpur-Chattogram route, while the Dewanganj Eid Special 3 & 4 will run on the Dhaka-Dewanganj-Dhaka route. The Sholakia Eid Special 5 & 6 will operate on the Bhairab Bazar-Kishoreganj-Bhairab Bazar route, and the Sholakia Eid Special 7 & 8 will serve the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj-Mymensingh route. Additionally, the Parbatipur Eid Special 9 & 10 will run between Joydebpur and Parbatipur.

Earlier, on March 9, a press release signed by Rezaul Karim Siddiqui, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Railways, announced the details of the advance ticket sales.
