Grameenphone Gears Up for AI-Driven Growth

In a bid to bring the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) to customers, mobile operator Grameenphone is now training its employees in AI applications. At the same time, it has launched the “GP Ideathon” to encourage employees to develop AI-based solutions internally. These initiatives form part of a broader program titled “AI and I,” aimed at transforming Grameenphone into an AI-powered telco-tech company. Under the program, expert trainers are providing hands-on instruction on integrating AI into all areas—from network management to customer service and marketing.

The program was launched last week at GP House, near Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka, in the presence of Grameenphone’s top management. The inauguration was led by the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Yasir Azman.

Speaking at the event, Azman said, “AI and I is unlike any other program—it marks the beginning of a journey. We believe the future does not solely depend on AI alone, but on the combined synergy of AI and human collaboration. Through this initiative, we will deliver the benefits of AI to each of our employees, thereby enhancing our ability to serve customers in a smarter, more empathetic, and more relevant way.”

He further stated, “At Grameenphone, we do not view AI merely as a technological transformation—it is also a transformation of our human resources. Through AI and I, we will ensure smarter services for our customers because our workforce will become smarter, more agile, and truly empowered.”

According to Grameenphone, integrating AI into all aspects of its operations—from network management to customer service and marketing—has already enabled the company to deliver smarter and faster services tailored to the needs and preferences of over 86 million customers. From a business perspective, AI is being used to offer personalized promotions, deploy intelligent HR bots to enhance workplace efficiency, and apply AI-based network optimization to ensure superior service quality.

Additionally, as a pioneer in Bangladesh, Grameenphone has launched the country’s first enterprise-grade “AI Factory” in collaboration with Cisco and powered by NVIDIA GPU technology. This infrastructure will enable the development and deployment of high-speed AI models, paving the way for advanced applications in the telecom sector.
