National STEAM Olympiad starts from March 15
Students are getting education in schools and colleges but they are not getting skills. Acquiring skills of students along with traditional education is the need of the hour. For this, the National STEAM Olympiad-2023 competition is going to start on March 15 for students of all levels across the country with the support of the Ministry of Education. The Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni is the key patron and renowned science and IT expert, honorable member of University Grants Commission Prof. Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain is the chief advisor and convener of the National STEAM Olympiad.
The guests conveyed the information at the press conference organized by iTesseract Technologies Ltd. at Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of Jatiya Press Club on Monday (March 6).
The press conference was also attended by the special guest, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited Dr. Shahjahan Mahmud; Bangabandhu Digital University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahfuzul Islam; Professor of Dhaka University Dr. Lafifa Jamal; A.D.N. Group Chairman Asif Mahmud; Smart Group Chairman Mazharul Islam; and Dell Country Director Atiqur Rahman.
The organizers said that students of six different levels can participate in the competition in eight different subjects in three rounds. They also announced the opportunity to win prizes for the winners of the competition. The first prize of each category is two lakh taka, the first and second runners-up will get taka one lakh and taka 50 thousand respectively.
While speaking as the chief guest, Professor Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain Science and Information Technologist and a Member of the University Grants Commission said, STEAM Olympiad is a timely step. STEAM combines science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. We will work for our students from primary education to university so that there is a qualitative change, competitiveness, creative thinking and research innovation spread among them. Our journey is starting in the month of March so that our new generation can develop anew by relying on new practical science-based technology.
He also said that, this time it will continue till September and will be organized every year. There are many types of Olympiads in our country. STEAM Olympiad will cover everything. We will move forward with everything in mind.
Objectives of National STEAM Olympiad
To promote STEAM awareness among the youth and help build a skilled nation; Making the youth suitable for massive improvement by utilizing the opportunities of the fourth industrial revolution in mills and various industrial establishments; Motivate students in higher education, problem solving, innovation and research in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) subjects; Inspiring students to contribute to the implementation of the Smart Bangladesh 2041 vision; And to make students interested in hands-on practical learning as well as helping them to be humane and responsible. The mission and vision of National STEAM Olympiad is to encourage girls to develop their awareness and skills to prepare for the upcoming challenges and changes by laying emphasis on various skills related to the fourth industrial revolution.
