EA Eliminates Roles and Resets Titanfall Spin-off

In another wave of layoffs and project cancellations within the gaming industry, Electronic Arts (EA) has reportedly laid off between 300 and 400 employees, including nearly 100 from its subsidiary studio Respawn Entertainment. Alongside the job cuts, an unannounced Titanfall game—codenamed “R7”—has been scrapped, according to a report by Engadget.

Citing Bloomberg, the report states that “R7” was in its early stages and designed as an “extraction shooter” type game. Respawn confirmed that it has cancelled two “incubation projects” currently under development.

EA is now refocusing its resources and attention on franchises with greater profit potential, such as Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi series.

In 2023, EA cut approximately 1,130 jobs, followed by an additional five percent reduction in workforce in 2024. Regarding the recent decisions, Respawn stated, “These decisions are not easy, and we are proud of the creativity and contributions of those who have been affected.”

The restructuring highlights EA’s ongoing strategy to streamline operations and double down on its most commercially successful titles.
